मेरे पडोसी का कुत्ता

(४) चोरी से बचाना (५) पड़ोसी का गर्व (६ ) हमारी समस्या ] मेरा पड़ोसो और उसका कुत्ता कालू दोनों एक-दूसरे के पूरक हैं। पड़ोसी के मारे दिनभर हमें के चैन की सौस नहीं मिल पाती और उसका कुत्ता रात में हमारी नींद हराम कर देता है। रात में जब
सभी रेडियो बंद हो जाते हैं, तब उसकी 'भौ-भौ' का कर्कश संगीत शुरू हो जाता है।
दिन में भी इस कुत्ते के मारे हमारी नाक में दम आ जाता है। हमने एक बिल्ली पाल रखी है, पर उस कुत्ते के डर से वह बेचारी बिल्ली होकर भी 'चुहिया' जैसी बनी रहती है। वह कुत्ता पहले भी हमारी एक-दो बिल्लियों का सफाया कर चुका है। हम अपनी इस बिल्ली को बहुत सावधानी से रखते हैं। हमने एक तोता भी पाला था, पर पड़ोसी के इस 'कालू' ने एक दिन उसे अपना शिकार बना ही लिया।
कई बार पड़ोसी से कालू की शिकायत की कि आप उसे बाँधकर रखिए, पर उनके कानों पर जूं तक नहीं रेंगती। कालू की आजादी हमें भारी पड़ जाती है। घर के बच्चे कभी घर के बाहर बैठकर कुछ खाने लगते, तो ये साहब उनके हाथ से खाना ही झपट लेते हैं। डर के मारे बच्चे घर से बाहर खेलने तक नहीं जाते। इतनी खैर है कि आज तक उसने किसी पर दाँत नहीं जमाए। एक दिन नौकर के लिए खीर अलग रखी हुई थी। पड़ोसी के कुत्ते को उसकी खुशबू मिल गई और वह उसे साफ कर गया हमारे रिश्तेदार और परिचित भी इस कुत्ते से बहुत डरते हैं। एक दिन तो पिताजी ने तंग आकर निश्चय किया कि यदि पड़ोसी नहीं सुनता तो वे थाने में इसकी शिकायत दर्ज करा देंगे। लेकिन उसी दिन एक और घटना हो गई।
रात के समय कुछ चोर पिछली दीवार से मेरे घर में घुसने की कोशिश कर रहे थे। अभी सिर्फ एक ही चोर अंदर आ पाया था कि कालू की जोरदार भौ-भौ से हमारी नींद खुल गई। आहट पाकर हम बाहर आए तो देखा कि चोर भाग रहे हैं। हमने एक चोर को पकड़कर पुलिस के हवाले कर दिया। कहाँ कालू थाने जानेवाला था और कहाँ उसने चोर को ही वहाँ पहुँचा दिया। कालू ने हम पर बड़ा उपकार किया। इससे पिताजी का क्रोध भी ठंडा पड़ गया।
तब से हमारे पड़ोसी महोदय भी मूछों पर ताव देकर कहते हैं-'अजी! वह कुत्ता नहीं, पुलिस इन्स्पेक्टर है। यह न होता तो उस दिन तुम्हारी तिजोरी साफ हो जाती ।' हम भी कोई प्रत्युत्तर नहीं दे पाते। अजीब समस्या खड़ी कर दी है मेरे पड़ोसी के इस
